Book Launch: The Measures
Still from The Measures. Courtesy Jacqueline Goss, Jenny Perlin, and Simon Preston Gallery, New York.
October 24, 7PM.
Triangle presents a live film performance and book launch of the artist book The Measures. Artists Jacqueline Goss and Jenny Perlin retrace the journey of two 18th-century astronomers tasked with determining the true length of the meter. From the Mediterranean Sea to the English Channel, The Measures explores the metric system’s origins during the violence and upheavals of the French Revolution. Goss and Perlin consider the intertwining of political and personal turmoil, the failures of standardization, and the subtleties of collaboration. A rare live performance of the film will be followed by a discussion between Goss and Perlin.
The Magic Agency: Chapters 1 & 2
Chapter 1: American Fly & Chapter 2: Fairies Visit Fly
Triangle Arts Association presents the premiere of THE MAGIC AGENCY, a new performance work by Brooklyn-based Lilac Co. in which a group (cult?) performs psychic recoveries of fragmented people as party entertainment, helping people rescue their “lost selves.” Written and directed by playwright Sean Edward Lewis, and drawing from the hermetic expressionism of Agnes Martin, Gertrude Stein, Samuel Beckett, and others, the work “creates not merely physical spaces, but imaginary, emotional, and intellective states an audience passes through.” (Thom Donovan, The Brooklyn Rail).
With Sean Lewis, Claire Campbell and Sarah Casey.
Art direction: Kenneth Curwood
Stage manager: Channa Goodwin,
Sound design by Jeremy Slater and Eric Hoegemeyer
